My name is Matthew Cooper and I’ve been a script writer for hire, UK script consultant and Script Doctor for over 25 years.

I’ve written award winning short films (starring Ewan McGregor amongst others) and award winning screenplays. I’ve also written hundreds of hours of broadcast television for the BBC, ITV, CH4 and Channel Five here in the UK.

BAFTA shortlisted scriptwriter for hire

I was BAFTA shortlisted for my work on the British prime time TV soap ‘Emmerdale’ and I was the youngest scriptwriter (at 27) to ever make the core writing team of the ITV soap.

Across on the BBC I wrote the episode of ‘EastEnders’ where ‘Alfie’ told ‘Kat’ he loved her – one of the most watched episodes in the shows history.

I helped to triple the viewing figures of the CH4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’ when I joined in 2006, and helped lead the teen soap to a clean sweep at the British Soap Awards in 2007. During my time on Hollyoaks we introduced the McQueen Family, and Gangster Warren Fox, described by The Guardian as the only genuine gangster to ever appear in a UK soap, who within a week of his arrival had murdered a rival, chopped up his body and buried him (all at 6pm on CH4, and all under the watchful eye of the censors – no mean feet).

Overall I’ve got about 200 hours of UK TV with my name on.  In film, I’ve written or rewritten or been involved in many theatrically released feature films (often uncredited as a script consultant) and over the years I’ve worked with people like Justin Chadwick, Jon Baird, Mitu Misra and Ian Bevitt.  I’ve sold a screenplay to Miramax, and a US major.  I’ve worked as a script consultant on projects backed by Netflix/ITV and CH4.
