Hey – my name is Matthew Cooper – I’m BAFTA shortlisted, Royal Television Society Nominated pro scriptwriter with TV credits stretching back to 1994 (with Ewan McGregor’s first credit in a short film I wrote).
I’ve written for Eastenders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Family Affairs in the UK – that’s, BBC/ITV/CH4 and CH5 chalked off. I was the youngest writer in the history of Emmerdale (and was Royal Television Society Nominated in my first year on the core writing team as best network newcomer).
On Eastenders I wrote the episode where Alfie told Kat he loved her for the first time – 17 million people turned in to watch that episode in 2002 – one of the highest viewed episodes in the soaps history.
I was part of the writing team that took Hollyoaks from 400k viewers per episode to 3million viewers per episode in the same 12 month period – Hollyoaks was nominated in and won every single category of the UK Soap Awards while I worked on it. No mean feet, and it’s never been done again.
I’ve won the Lloyds Bank /Channel Four Film Prize as a scriptwriter, I also won the Oscar Moore Screenplay Award – and loads of other scriptwriting awards when I was younger.
In 2006 – I was part of the team that produced what was the first ever UK webserial for YouTube (which had only just launched in the UK). The whole project was backed by one of the Dragon’s from TV’s Dragon’s Den.
