How much does it cost to turn a book into a screenplay or script?  Ask a scriptwriter for hire…

As the UK’s busiest script writer for hire and UK script consultant I get asked by authors on an almost daily basis if I’m interested in turning their book (some professionally published) into a screenplay.

First, of course I have to read and assess the book itself, a chargeable service (contact me for details) if, once I’ve read the book, I think it would make a viable and exiting screenplay I charge a standard fee for turning a book into a feature screenplay (or Netflix style series).

The cost is £7,500.  And this service is pretty popular.  The payments break down into the following segments.

Film or Netflix Style series

After the initial assessment (cost based on page count).   The Author (or attached producer/director) would need to make the following payments:

  • £1,500 commencement payment
  • £1,500 storyline delivered and approach agreed
  • £1,000 First draft commencement fee
  • £1,500 First draft delivered
  • £1,000 second draft delivered and notes addressed
  • £1,000 sign off (and copyright of the script passes to the author)

Should the film / script /series reach production I would then be paid PACT minimum guidelines by the producer  / studio or production company on day one of shooting – if the script is to be credited to the director (or other parties) I would required a further 20% fee (and script consultant credit) – non credited work (which I do all the time may require further negotiation prior to production).

Book or Novel into a script or screenplay

So, £7,500 would get your book turned into a screenplay (written by a BAFTA shortlisted and Royal Television Society Nominated scriptwriter) so you could approach producers, directors and production companies with a sharply written professional screenplay of your book.   Approaching producers with anything less is just a waste of your time and theirs.

You can contact me for more details on this service on my email – matcoop23@yahoo.co.uk

I’m friendly, professional, honest and won’t waste my your time if you don’t waste mine. Contact me for a chat (I won’t bite).
