BBC Writersroom OPEN CALL 2022 for Drama or Comedy/Drama Script submissions– Script Consultant UK.

As the busiest UK script consultant and script writer for hire on the net, I like to keep tabs of when the BBC Writersroom has an open call for new writers–and they have just announced their latest Open Call for Drama or Comedy drama scripts. This means that I’m going to be very busy with my script coverage and script report service.

I’ve blogged before about BBC Writers room opens calls and how new scriptwriters can use my expertise to get a leg up on the competition, and I’ve written an article all about the importance of the BBC Writersroom for new scriptwriters in the UK.  Indeed–in reality the BBC Writersroom is just about the ONLY place you can submit scripts and get them read as a new scriptwriter in the United Kingdom.

BBC Writersroom OPEN CALL Submission dates

The Writersroom Open Call submission dates are: Wednesday 9th November to Wednesday 7th December 2022 at noon.  So, what I’d suggest is that you leave some time for getting a script report / script coverage before you submit. Remember you’ll only get one chance and one read, so use my services before you submit your script to make sure your script is cutting the mustard – a lot of your fellow scriptwriting newbies will use my service prior to submitting their work–you don’t want to be left behind.

Indeed, in 2017 the BBC Writers Room confirmed that in their Drama Open Call they had 4000 scripts submitted, and only 33 progressed to the next stage – I think there were 6 winners – 4,000 down to six. That’s long odds.   So getting professional feedback on your script before you submit is a good idea.

Script consultant UK – Script Coverage and Script Reports

So, always keep in mind that before you send your screenplay anywhere, make sure you’ve had someone read it, and report on it.  My script report service is the most comprehensive on the market, with a page by page read and notes on how to improve (if possible) and I also give loads of practical business advice – like the blog post above.  If you want someone who knows what they’re doing to read and assess your work – contact me on matcoop23@yahoo.co.ukI’m a BAFTA shortlisted and Royal TV society nominated scriptwriter with nearly 30-years experience in the industry.

Prices are as follows:

  • Short film script report £50
  • TV drama up to one hour script report £80
  • Feature film script report £120

Turnaround on reports can be up to four weeks if I’m really busy – so build some time into your submission process – time for me to read – and for you to make any changes required. It’s the best way to give yourself a head start.

BBC Writers Room Script Submissions

The BBC Writersroom themselves are not looking to make or commission any of the scripts you enter into the competition. They’re looking for new writers to commission on existing shows like Eastenders or Casualty – THAT MEANS they’re offering you the chance of a professional career–Casualty pays over £20,000 per episode to the writer (and you’ll be expected to do four episodes a year).

So, they’re looking for a level of professionalism and commitment to the craft – which your submission needs to show. It’s true that they want an original voice–but they also want new writers who can HIT THE GROUND running on a show.   My reports also contain loads of career advice – and advice on how to present yourself as a pro scriptwriter who understands what is required.

I’m here to help and of course you can trust me, I’m a doctor – well a script doctor at least.
