We all have a favourite TV moment – like when Alfie first told Kat he loved her on Eastenders (I wrote that) or when the McQueen sisters arrived on Hollyaoks (I wrote some of that) or when Ewan McGregor first cried on film (I wrote that). Or what about when Mandy Dingle seduced vet Paddy for the last time in Emmerdale? (I wrote that).
My name is Matthew Cooper and I’ve been a script writer for hire and UK script consultant for over 25 years. I’ve written for most of the UK soaps, including writing award-winning episodes of Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Family Affairs and I’ve been BAFTA shortlisted, and Royal Television Society nominated as a script writer (see some samples of my TV work here)
Scriptwriter for internal training videos
I’ve done high profile rewrites on released and studio backed feature films and TV (often uncredited) in my time, I’ve also sold original screenplays to Miramax and Universal Pictures. My first credit as a scriptwriter stretches all the way back to 1993 – with my short film Family Style – which was commissioned by Channel Four when I was 19 years old and starred an unknown actor called Ewan McGregor.
Recently I wrote and directed the comedy feature film SOBER starring Dean Smith (Last Tango in Halifax / Still Open All Hours) and Tom Gibbons (Funny Cow / The Archers) which will be released in 2025. You can find some of my broadcast credits on the IMDb.
Comedy and drama scriptwriter for hire
Alongside writing scripts for film and television – I also have a very busy side hustle as a writer for brands – specialising in funny and dramatic scripts for training and development teams in large organisations.
I’ve written training material for some very large household brands – and helped colleagues at these brands be ENTERTAINED as they learned – using my scriptwriting skill to engage and move colleagues and make them laugh when appropriate.
Scriptwriter for internal communications
I specialise in making your message / internal training / funny dramatic and entertaining – helping your messaging and training land with a bigger bounce.
I work with various production companies who specialise in this sort of work, who help provide expert actors, crew and directors and producers – to help provide a total package for all your training and internal communications needs – I provide the scripts (to your brief) and then with the help of expert video producers, we take those scripts through to production and delivery – all to your brief and with your involvement at all stages of the process from script to screen to delivery to your colleagues – we often involve your own staff members in the actual videos themselves.
