Looking forward to 2018

We’re approaching New Year’s Eve and I thought I’d pen a little blogpost looking back at 2017. As a script writer for hire I’ve had more work this year than ever before and the work has been interesting and varied. From original feature screenplays to novel adaptations, screenplay rewrites and script reports – things have been really busy.

I’ve also managed to put some time aside to start shooting super 8mm film again and done a little bit of work on a stop motion animation project I’m working on. It’s been a fun and packed year.

UK script consultant

As a UK script consultant and screenwriter for hire I’ve tried to think what I’d like to focus more on in 2018. And I have to say the work I’ve enjoyed most this year has been on American projects.

As an award winning screenwriter for hire I’m attractive to US film producers and directors as they can hire me on a standard contract and I work without a troublesome agent and to standard UK PACT Guidelines if the project goes to production and a small fee upfront to get me started.

I’ve decided again to continue to work without an agent in 2018 (unless there is some sort of bidding war situation with one of my scripts!). I was approached by a number of UK agents in 2017, but my work through this website seems to make them nervous – if I can get work myself, what do I need an agent for?

Digital disruption

The ongoing change of focus towards long tail media continues and I’ve had work this year writing for all sorts of platforms – so whether it’s film or TV you want I can also adapt my storytelling and dialogue writing skills to any sort of medium. One of my biggest jobs in 2017 was writing nearly 90 minutes of comedy drama for an eLeaning platform.

I love digital disruption and have tried to embrace it as much as possible in my life. While I do think some things have changed for the worse over the last 15 years, the digital tide is a revolution that has democratised much of the media and that’s a great thing.
