John Carpenter Interview – Leeds Film Festival

The interview below is from the Leeds Film Festival a couple of years ago, it’s hilarious.

John Carpenter is a man who’s done just about everything he wanted in life, and he still seems pissed off. He’s legend, not really respected in America as much as he should be – he’s as close to Howard Hawks as the movies have produced in the last forty years.

In the plainly awkward interview John talks a little bit about his career, his time at film school (he dropped out) and modern movies (which he’s not that interested in). He also talks a little bit about digital technology.

The lad doing the interview is a classic Leeds Hipster and he seems to wind John up no end. Lacking patience John is clearly in need of a smoke and possibly a snooze back in bed.

Interviewing people is hard, and I think during the interview Mr Hipster realises that it’s a skill that he lacks. Finally the interview is funny and insightful, despite the kid doing the interview. It’s a worth a watch, for the cringe value and the insight.
